KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2012) -- Everybody knows about Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who emerges every February 2 from his burrow. Legend has it that if Phil sees his shadow, winter will be extended for another six weeks, and if he doesn’t, then the cold and snowy weather will end much sooner.
Phil is not alone. In Canada there’s Wiarton Willie, Ohio has Buckeye Chuck, Michigan relies on Woody the Woodchuck, and many other towns and communities have their own meteorological mammals. But what you don’t know is that the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), based in Florida, has its own special groundhog, “Kissimmee Kate,” who will also be looking for her shadow on February 2.
Kate is not a native of Florida, she’s originally from Punxsutawney, and was growing weary of all the attention given every year to her friend Phil. So a couple of years ago she emerged from hibernation to see her own shadow, and instead of retreating back underground as she always did, this time she hopped on a plane to Florida to escape those dreaded six extra weeks of winter chill. Once she arrived at AANR, she found she was a natural nudist and decided to stay.
On Groundhog Day this year, Kate will be looking for her shadow along with all her friends around America, but the difference will be that if she does see it, she will simply know that it’s going to be a great day for sunbathing, skinny-dipping in the pool, playing games, or simply socializing in the nude with family and friends.
The good news for groundhogs is that it’s always good weather somewhere for nude recreation. AANR is proud to be affiliated with 260 nudist resorts and clubs across North America and beyond. Visitors will find everything from upscale amenities to back-to-nature campgrounds in AANR clubs plus everything in between.
AANR clubs and resorts are also very welcoming to humans, who don’t have to wait until February 2 to make decisions about escaping the cold weather. Find a nude resort or clothing optional resort by state, region or zip code at the http://www.aanr.com Club Locator. There are AANR clubs to fit your needs from upscale resorts with all the latest amenities such as fitness centers, pools, hot tubs, restaurants and Wi-Fi to rustic campgrounds for that back to nature experience, or visit the site’s Nude Beach section to find out about legally sanctioned nudist beaches and beach etiquette. Want to know about happenings at AANR clubs in your area or region? Visit the Nudist Events page to stay updated.
So if you’re stuck in a rut, just like Kissimmee Kate once was, take a “Nakation” and see how much nude recreation can be fun, healthy, and liberating. And if you happen to see Kate by the pool, be sure to say hello, because like a typical nudist, she’s one of the friendliest people - er - groundhogs that you’ll ever meet.
